Cities in valley respond to risk of pesticides in parklands

In the past month, the city of Los Altos has analyzed soil samples taken from all of its public parks. In Santa Clara, city officials point to a recently created wetland habitat with pride, knowing they made the area safer by cleaning up DDT and arsenic. And across Silicon Valley, county parks officials routinely make environmental reviews part of every new project.

After a Mercury News investigation into old pesticide contamination in Santa Clara County, local parks officials say they are taking the issue of safety seriously.

Folic acid can cut blood arsenic levels: study

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Folic acid, found in leafy vegetables, can cut drastically arsenic levels in the blood of people who have suffered long-term exposure to the poison in groundwater, a new study in Bangladesh has found.
